Finch Chicks

Back
We started with nine Gouldian eggs.  The three Societies took on their incubation duties immediately!
We really didn't expect anything to happen and were VERY surprised to discover three little naked, pink Gouldian chicks the day after Thanksgiving!  After they got a little bigger we started to get glimpses of them and hear them peeping to be fed.

As they grew, the nest became pretty crowded!  They're a big job for the Societies to keep fed.  The chicks even beg for food when they see us looking!  The bigger they get, the louder they chirp for food!

The chicks are about a month old now and are really starting to look like birds.
The largest of the three chicks.  He fledged from the nest on December 14!  We found him down in the corner of the cage, alone and frightened.  He was very happy to be put back into the nest, but we're sure he will be out and about again tomorrow!

December 15 - Looks like three green backs!  Two chicks came out of the nest flying!
